What is the Individuals and Societies program about
In accordance with the Ministry of Education Social Sciences program, the MYP Individuals and Societies incorporates disciplines traditionally studied under the general term the Humanities. These include ancient and Modern History, Geography, History of Quebec and Canada, Contemporary World and Financial Education.
Students are exposed to learning opportunities through inquiry and investigation. The aim is to develop research and analytical skills as well as to understand multiple perspectives. Students develop their ability to express themselves eloquently and with purpose.

Individuals and Societies in !
At Saint-Lambert International High School, we are proud to offer the History and Geography courses, in French as a second language and as mother tongue to increase overall fluency.
In secondary I and II, all students complete their Individuals and Societies courses in French. These courses are adapted according to the level of the French course the students are registered in.
In secondary III to V, students pursue their academic paths according to their French course enrolment.
JUNIOR history
What is the program?
Secondary I
Students are introduced to the course to ensure a solid foundation. The teacher focuses on developing the reading, annotating, memorizing and listening skills required to succeed. This is done through various approaches including activities and dynamic games. Students will be learning the following historical periods, in accordance with MEES:
Sedentarization
The emergence of civilization: Mesopotamia
The first experience of democracy (Ancient Greece)
Secondary II
Students are introduced to more autonomous learning. The teacher focuses on developing their study, research and communication skills. This is done through various approaches including activities and dynamic games. Students will be learning the following historical periods, in accordance with MEES:
Romanization (Ancient Rome)
The Christianization of the West and the Growth of cities and trade (Middle Ages)
The industrial phase
Secondary I
The teacher focuses on developing the student's ability to use geographical skills in order to understand different territories. This is done through various approaches including activities, dynamic games and research projects. Students will be learning about the following territories, in accordance with MEES.
Regional territory: Tourism
Protected territory: Natural parks
Urban territory: Natural Hazards
Secondary II
Students continue to discover new territories while looking at them from a more geo-political
standpoint. Students will be developing their argumentative skills and discover the importance
of citizen responsibility in geographical issues. Students will be learning the
following subjects, in accordance with MEES.
Regional territory: Energy producing
Urban territory: The metropolis

JUNIOR geography

(Secondary III)
History of Quebec and Canada 1500 to 1840
Students begin the first half of the History of Quebec and Canada course. This course is heavy-content and provides an opportunity for students to practice for the MEES exam which will be administered the following year. Students learn how to read and interpret historical documents with a particular focus on intellectual operations.
This course covers the following four chapters:
The Experience of the Indigenous Peoples and the Colonization attempts
The Evolution of Colonial Society under the French Rule
The Conquest and the Change of Empire
The Demands and Struggles of Nationhood

What is the program?
(Secondary IV)
History of Quebec and Canada 1840 to present
Students continue on to the second half of the History of Quebec and Canada course. This course is heavy in its content with an end of year MEES exam. Students learn how to prepare for such an evaluation.
This course covers the following four chapters:
The Formation of the Canadian Federal System
Nationalisms and the Autonomy of Canada
The Modernization of Quebec and the Quiet Revolution
Societal Choices in Contemporary Quebec

What is the program?
(Secondary V)
Contemporary World Studies
Students are exposed to world issues from the past and how they impact our current world. Students will learn through debates, discussions and development of ideas using the study of geography, history, politics, economics and social issues. This course is designed to prepare them for their citizenship role in society. In every subject studied, students will learn to form and express their opinions based on educated and informed arguments. Students will also explore variants of the following general topics:
Past and Current Conflicts
Power and World Organizations
Current Events
Financial Education
Students are introduced to the world of personal finances. This is designed to prepare students to the realities of financial responsibilities. Through discussions and projects, students learn about various tools, laws and tips they can use in their future financial decisions in hopes of making better life-long choices. We discuss topics such as budgeting, credit, rights and responsibilities of consumers.
